For those of you lucky enough to be attending WAC7 in Jordan in a few days time there are a couple of interesting looking papers on Neolithic Britain. Jim Leary of English Heritage will be presenting a paper on the large mounds of Wessex – Silbury Hill, Marlborough Mound and the Hatfield Barrow. he will outline some of the recent work undertaken at these sites and offer some ideas for interpreting these as yet poorly understood monuments.
There will also be a paper by Kim Rice of UCD who will be offering new insights into diachronic cultural and social change during the Neolithic in eastern Ireland. Recent work undertaken as part of infrastructure development has revealed extensive prehistoric cultural remains across a diverse range of ecological and topographical zones. The paper will examine Neolithic settlement in eastern Ireland within an integrated landscape model.
